As part of our mission to expand the global community of skilled and effective mediators and peace negotiators, CPD provides professional education and training programs on peacemaking strategy and peace process design. Below are the courses that we offer. Clients can choose between these courses or combine them to create a full package of training, depending on their needs.

Mediation Strategy

• Course 1: Introduction to Mediation Strategy

Our Mediation Strategy courses offer an appreciation of the range of strategies (or “theories of change”) available to mediators. 

These courses emphasize the importance of learning from historical experience. These two courses are designed to give students both an appreciation of the full range of strategies available and an understanding of how to judge between strategies and their applicability in different scenarios.

Tools of Dialogue

• Course 3: Introduction to Tools of Dialogue

• Course 4: Tools of Dialogue: Advanced

Our Tools of Dialogue courses are designed to instill an appreciation of the full armory of tactics, working methods and tools available to mediators and peace negotiations, from inter-personal trust building techniques to back-channeling and formal international peace conferences.

Simulation-Based Immersive Training

• Course 5: The Darian Dialogue Crisis Simulation

CPD offers a 2 day crisis simulation as a way of deepening the insights and honing the skills of trainees.

This course has been developed to widespread acclaim at training events in leading conflict and security think tanks and at Ivy League universities. The scenario is designed to rigorously test and develop skills in all areas of mediation strategy, process design, deal brokering, protocol, and negotiation.
